If you suffer from sensitive skin, you know it gets irritated easily. It may react to ingredients found in some skin care products, to stress or to your environment. Not ideal when you want to look your best. But you are not on your own. In fact 50% of people claim to have sensitive skin.

Some people describe their sensitive skin as changeable, meaning its condition varies from day to day and reacts to just about anything. Some say their sensitive skin is just dry and delicate all the time. All skin is sensitive in different ways and signs may range from a mild, transient tingling sensation and slight redness, to dryness (skin tightness, roughness, flaking).

Irritants that commonly cause problems are skin care products that contain colour or perfume; sun exposure; extreme weather conditions; extreme temperatures or chemical based skincare.

Recognising what is likely to irritate your skin is the most important thing you can do to prevent the reactions that characterise sensitive skin – so make sure that you use products that contain nothing but good ingredients.

Keep It Clean - You need to make sure that you cleanse your face twice daily – a build up of grime and dirt can cause sensitive skin irritation. To avoid that tight-skin feeling you can get after washing your face, we suggest using a gentle, moisturising facial wash. Follow this with a soothing facial toner - a mild astringent will help to shrink your pores and freshen up your complexion. Don’t use anything too harsh though, as you’ve guessed it...it could cause a reaction!

Hydration - The next step is to make sure that you apply the right moisturiser. Some moisturising creams are just too rich and heavy for sensitive skin and using the wrong product can lead to blocked pores, skin irritation, and breakouts. A light, water-based moisturiser applied twice a day after cleansing is ideal.

Wear Sun Screen - The final step for sensitive skin is sun screen. If your skin is sensitive, it’s more prone to reacting to the harmful effects of the sun and you might find that going out without a decent application of SPF could lead to redness, burning, breakouts, and other damage... after just a few minutes of exposure. To be on the safe side, use a decent application of moisturiser with an SPF every time you leave the house.
